As a result of the rapidly changing situation with COVID-19, all college events and facility rentals on and off campus are cancelled until further notice. Information regarding events can be found at our Mohawk College COVID-19 information website and will be updated frequently.
Please contact firstname.lastname@example.org if you have any questions or concerns.
A positive volunteer experience is our first priority. Whether you are volunteering with Mohawk or a community group, we encourage you to do your due diligence and ask the following questions before getting involved:
What health and safety protocols, including any COVID-19 related protocols, are put in place to protect volunteers?
How will I receive training for this volunteer role?
Who will be my direct supervisor? Who can I contact if I have questions or concerns and my supervisor is unavailable?
Disclaimer: External organizations listed on this site are not always affiliated with Mohawk College. Volunteers should visit community organization websites to learn more about them. Volunteers should never send money or banking information to these organizations.
Join us this summer as we offer virtual educational programming for youth between the ages of 5 and 13. Through Summer literacy we will be developing reading strategies with students who are struggling with their learning skills, work habits and language. While empowering youth to make confident choices, handle real life and prevent dangerous situations and live a safe life with Home Alone Safety.
Current online opportunities include:
Summer Literacy Program
The Literacy Program provides children from grades junior kindergarten to grade 5 with the opportunity to develop reading strategies including: phonemic awareness, levelled reading, shared reading and targeted interactive writing exercises
Volunteers will work with students on activities that target students learning goals.
Home Alone Safety Program
Working with volunteers, participants will complete the SOS 4 Kids online program over four weeks which aims to empower youth to make confident choices, handle real life and prevent dangerous situations and live a safe life. By means of games, digital media, video and situational-based scenarios, youth will gain skills to create safe environments for themselves at home, school, online and in their communities. Fun and interactive, kids must earn 7 safety badges to successfully obtain the Home Alone Safety Certificate.
