Welcome to Mohawk’s Volunteer & Leadership Opportunities Site!

As a result of the rapidly changing situation with COVID-19, all college events and facility rentals on and off campus are cancelled until further notice. Information regarding events can be found at our Mohawk College COVID-19 information website and will be updated frequently.

Please contact student.life@mohawkcollege.ca if you have any questions or concerns.

A positive volunteer experience is our first priority. Whether you are volunteering with Mohawk or a community group, we encourage you to do your due diligence and ask the following questions before getting involved:
  • What health and safety protocols, including any COVID-19 related protocols, are put in place to protect volunteers?
  • How will I receive training for this volunteer role?
  • Who will be my direct supervisor? Who can I contact if I have questions or concerns and my supervisor is unavailable?
Disclaimer: External organizations listed on this site are not always affiliated with Mohawk College. Volunteers should visit community organization websites to learn more about them. Volunteers should never send money or banking information to these organizations.

  3. Seabin Waste Characterization Volunteer
Description:

Join BARC staff on a Sunday Morning to sort and count the waste captured in Harbour West Marina's 3 sea bins. Please look for a BARC staff member in a blue shirt, who will be in front of the Harbour West Marina Entrance (1 Guise St W, Hamilton, ON L8L 8B4).

Wearing your mask and the provided gloves, we will work in small groups to weigh, rinse, count, and separate the large pieces of garbage. I.e. how many Tim Hortons Cups and Cigarette butts there are. We will then sift the garbage for smaller pieces (<2cm but >2mm) count and weigh them, and classify them by type (film, foam, pellet..ect). We have a specific protocol that we will follow and teach you, as developed by Pollution Probe and Toronto's Trash Team. They will also receive that data collected!

*Please note the end time is flexible as sorting time is dependent on how much waste has been captured by the Seabin.

Registration is done through eventbrite (see link below). If possible, we would prefer you commit to all four dates listed.
