Alzheimer Society In Home Social Recreation Volunteer

Do you want to get experience to round out your education in recreation, gerontology, or medical fields? In this role, you assist a person living with dementia to participate in social and recreational opportunities to improve quality of life. The position has ongoing start dates and is a weekly commitment of 1.5 hours/week for a minimum of 2 semesters.

Objective:
To assist persons with Alzheimer’s disease or other dementias (ADOD) and their caregivers by providing companionship for the person, delivering recreation activities to stimulate memory, confidence, and overall quality of life.

Responsibilities & Tasks:
▪ To visit the person in their home at a pre-arranged time, convenient to both the family and the volunteer.
▪ To participate in specific training for the role, and become familiar with resources available from the Social Recreation Coordinator
▪ To provide enriching recreational experiences for the person with dementia, in their home, on a weekly basis, for a period of approximately 8-12 months, minimum committment 2 semesters
