A positive volunteer experience is our first priority. Whether you are volunteering with Mohawk or a community group, we encourage you to do your due diligence and ask the following questions before getting involved:
- What health and safety protocols, including any COVID-19 related protocols, are put in place to protect volunteers?
- How will I receive training for this volunteer role?
- Who will be my direct supervisor? Who can I contact if I have questions or concerns and my supervisor is unavailable?

Larch After School Program Math/Number Talks Tutor
Number Talks are short discussions with one or two of our tutors and a small group of students about how to solve a particular mental math problem. The students do not use a calculator or paper & pencil. The idea is to solve the problem in one's head! The focus is not on the correct answer, but on all the possible methods of finding the answer. Each student has a chance to explain their method and everyone else will learn from other people's methods.
Objectives:
To work closely with a small group of children grades 3 to 8 on math using the Number Talks method.
To develop relationships with young children (grades 3 to 8).
To interact with children as they arrive and leave the program.
To debrief with the team regarding the day’s events.
